#2 Superfood – Spinach

Spinach is full of nutrients. It is one of the healthiest green leafy vegetables and full of essential nutrients. This green leafy vegetable helps keep you satisfied as it is very high in insoluble fibre.

This fibre helps keep a healthy digestive system. Spinach has calcium and vitamin K which is great for healthy bones. The potassium in spinach also plays an essential role in managing blood sugar.

I have learned a lot about blood sugar levels during intermittent fasting and how it relates to weight loss. Keeping your blood sugar levels in tact is so important for weight loss.

Spinach is a great vegetable to add to your meal as it helps fend off hunger and cravings with the loaded fibre in this superfood.

#3 Superfood- Beans(black beans, chickpeas, kidney beans)

Beans are an amazing superfood for weight loss. They are full of protein and fibre. One cup of black beans contains 16 grams of protein and 15 grams of fibre.

#4 Superfood – Berries

The best berries are blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, goji berries and strawberries. All of these have the highest amount of fibre and antioxidants which promote weight loss.

Berries are full of fibre and antioxidants which makes these one of the best superfoods for weight loss.

The fibre in berries reduces appetite, keeps you satisfied, helps digestion, and all of these combined it helps weight loss.

The high amount of antioxidants in berries keeps your body from becoming bloated. Berries also boost metabolism. Speeding up metabolism leads to fat burn. Fat burn = weight loss!

#5 Superfood – Broccoli

Broccoli is 89% water which makes it very low in calories (31 calories/cup) and high in vitamins and nutrients. It has Vitamin A, C, E, and K which gives your metabolism a boost to burn fat and leads to weight loss.

This superfood is high in soluble fibre so it will help keep you fuller longer. It also regulales your blood sugar levels

The fibre in broccoli also controls the production of ghrelin

#6 Superfood – Dark Chocolate

Yep….dark chocolate is a superfood! For a huge chocoholic here, I’m super excited about this one!

There is a different taste between milk chocolate and dark chocolate, but nonetheless…it’s still chocolate! Best of all, dark chocolate is a superfood for weight loss?! Excellent!

Dark chocolate helps boost metabolism, enhance moods, improves your sense of well-being, and helps control your appetite.

It also is lower in calories and contains healthy fats! Dark chocolate can also help insulin sensitivity which is responsible for controlling your blood sugar levels.

Dr. Berg on YouTube talks about how blood sugar levels relates to weight loss. I posted a video to explain it a bit more.

#7 Superfood – Avocados

Eating avocados can help your body burn calories and burn fat at an increased rate.

Avocados can also curb craving and decrease your appetite making you less likely to eat more than your body needs.

Avocados are a fruit, but also classified as a healthy fat because of the high amount of Omega 3 in them.

They are full of antioxidants and nutrients. Avocados contain omega 3, potassium, fibre, folic acid, and lutein.

They are also loaded with vitamins! Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, and K vitamins so they are an excellent superfood for your body.

Avocados, since they are so full of all kinds of vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants, are very effective for weight loss.

#8 Superfood – Almonds

Almonds are a great superfood to add to your daily routine. Just a small handful of these nuts can help in your overall health, but specifically weight loss.

They are low in calories which is important when you are tracking calories for weight loss. Almonds trigger a reduction in your Body Mass Index and waistline.

Because almonds are high in fibre. Just a handful of almonds (22 almonds) contains about 3.5 grams of fibre and 5.5 grams of protein.

Between the protein and fibre content in almonds, this gives your body a full feeling that prevents you from overeating. They contain potassium, iron, and magnesium as well.

Almonds are also full of antioxidants and rich in unsaturated fatty acids so they provide a good source for your necessary daily intake of nutrients and fatty acids, especially for weight loss.

#9 Superfood – Salmon

Omega fatty acids help to suppress appetite, burn fat, and decrease inflammation which reduces the number (and size) of fat cells in your body. This is particularly helping in losing belly fat.

Adding salmon to your daily menu would help you with your weight loss.

Salmon is one of the best lean proteins for weight loss. I talk more about salmon in my post on best proteins that help lose belly fat. One serving of wild pacific salmon,

Contains 24 grams of protein. That’s an excellent source of protein which is important especially when you are trying to lose weight.

Protein is essential for keeping muscle mass while you are losing weight. Plus, of all the fatty fish, salmon has the highest amount of omega-3 fatty acids.

#10 Superfood – Green Tea

Green tea is an amazing drink for overall health, not to mention weight loss! I wrote a post on drinking green tea for weight loss here.

It is full of antioxidants known as catechins. These catechins in green tea help speed up your metabolism causing a higher fat burning.

Green tea decreases the absorption of fatty acids in the stomach and intestine.

Green tea also contains caffeine which speeds up metabolism. Drinking green tea before a workout will help you burn more calories and more fat.

It is also helpful on your body to drink green tea after a workout as it helps restore your body

Green tea is a natural diuretic as well which will help shed water weight. Drinking green tea 1-2 times per day can help you accelerate your weight loss results.

#11 Superfood – Eggs

What About The Yolk?

The yolk has gotten a bad rap over the years and it was said often to avoid eating the yolk. Compared to the egg white, the yolk contains most of the eggs nutrients, including most of the iron, vitamins, and iron.

Eggs have also always been a concern for cholesterol levels. Here’s a great article that talks about this concern and how eggs are actually good for you.

Eggs have been a staple in our household for many years since we have free range chickens. It’s amazing to know that eggs are actually one of the top superfoods for weight loss.

Eggs are low in calories, but high in nutrients making it a super combo for effective weight loss. They are high in amino acids which are essential for kickstarting your metabolism.

Eggs are also high in protein. One large egg contains 6.3 grams of protein so having 2 eggs for breakfast would provide your body with 12.6 grams of protein.

This would fill you up and keep your body satisfied, while giving your body the nutrients it needs to burn fat.

Eating eggs for breakfast seems to be especially beneficial for weight loss because it boosts your metabolism and helps trigger fat burning.

Eggs also have omega 3 fatty acid which we talked about how important that is for weight loss.

#12 Superfood – Walnuts

If you don’t enjoy eating fish to get the healthy omega-3 fatty acids, grab a handful of walnuts!

Walnuts contain the highest level of antioxidants of all nuts which makes it one of the best superfoods for weight loss because of the benefits that antioxidants will do for your body.

Walnuts are one of the best nuts for weight loss. One ounce of walnuts (about 14 halves) contains 4 grams of protein and 1.4 grams of fibre. With this fibre and protein, your body will feel fuller and more satisfied.

Walnuts are also high in healthy unsaturated fats which helps curb appetite and trigger fat loss. Walnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acids which promotes weight loss.

Superfood For Thought

What superfood will you add to your daily routine to help you with weight loss? Personally, I have added many of these superfoods to my day, but not all!

I usually have a handful of nuts before supper to curb my appetite making it easier for me not to overindulge on supper! I have eggs 3 or 4 times a week, drink green tea daily, and try to eat fish once or twice a week.

dark chocolate

Grocery prices have skyrocketed since covid, making salmon a luxury food to be enjoyed on occasion, but I would love to incorporate salmon more often because of the benefits it provides for weight loss.

Regardless of your daily routine, adding a few or all of these superfoods for weight loss will have a positive effect on your body.

They have so many health benefits and can help  you see effective weight loss.
